World Heart Day

World Heart Day is observed every year on the last Sunday in September, is organized by the World Heart Federation, and has been celebrated annually since 1999. From 2011 onwards, it is celebrated every 29 September and no longer on the last Sunday of September. The 2013 World Heart Day will highlight a life-course approach to the prevention and control of CVD with a focus on women and children and show what actions can be taken through a person’s life to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease.

World Rabies Day

World Rabies Day takes place each year on September 28, the anniversary of the death of Louis Pasteur who, with the collaboration of his colleagues, developed the first efficacious rabies vaccine. World Rabies Day aims to raise awareness about the impact of rabies on humans and animals, provide information and advice on how to prevent the disease, and how individuals and organizations can help eliminate the main global sources.

Thomas H Morgan

Thomas Hunt Morgan was born on September 25, 1866, he was an American evolutionary biologist, geneticist and embryologist and science author who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1933 for discoveries elucidating the role the chromosome plays in heredity. He died on December 4, 1945.

Columbus - Second voyage to America

Columbus left from Cadiz in Spain for his second voyage  on September 24, 1493, with 17 ships and about 1200 men. His aim was to conquer the Taino tribe and colonise the region.

Johann Franz Encke

Johann Franz Encke was a German astronomer.  He was born on September 23, 1791, he worked on the calculation of the periods of comets and asteroids, measured the distance from the earth to the sun, and made observations of the planet Saturn. He died on August 26, 1865.
