Valentina Tereshkova

Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova was  born 6 March 1937, she is a retired Soviet Cosmonaut and the first woman to have flown in space.

The computer virus "Michelangelo" went into effect.

The Michelangelo virus is a computer virus first discovered in 4 February 1991 in Australia.    The virus was designed to infect DOS systems, but did not engage the operating system or make any OS calls. Michelangelo, like all boot sector viruses, basically operated at the Bios level. Each year, the virus remained dormant until March 6, the birthday of Renaissance artist Michelangelo. There is no reference to the artist in the virus, and it is doubtful that the virus writer intended Michelangelo to be referenced to the virus.The computer virus "Michelangelo" went into effect on march 2,1992.

Water on moon

On March 5, 1998 NASA announced that an orbiting craft had found enough water on the moon to support a human colony and rocket fueling station.

Arrest warrant for Omar Hassan al-Bashir

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir on March 4, 2009 for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. Al-Bashir was the first sitting head of state to be indicted by the ICC since its establishment in 2002.

Attukal Pongala

India wins battle against dreaded polio

 

On 25 February 2012,The World Health Organization (WHO) removed India from the global list of polio endemic countries, suggesting that the wild polio virus had been totally eliminated from the environment. The disease paralysed thousands of children every year for several decades.

25th Amendment to the US Constitution Adopted

 25th Amendment to the US Constitution was adopted on February 23, 1967 and it was ratified by Minnesota on February 10, 1967. Its purpose was to clarify presidential succession in case of death, resignation, or disability. It deals with succession to the Presidency and establishes procedures both for filling a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, as well as responding to Presidential disabilities.

The Crocodile Hunter

Stephen Robert "Steve" Irwin, nicknamed "The Crocodile Hunter", was an Australian wildlife expert, television personality, and conservationist.Irwin achieved worldwide fame from the television series. He was born on 22 February 1962. The Crocodile Hunter, an internationally broadcast wildlife documentary series which he co-hosted with his wife Terri. He died on 4 September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingraybarb while filming an underwater documentary film.

Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell

Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell was a lieutenant-general in the British Army, writer, founder and Chief Scout of the Scout Movement. He was also known as B-P or Lord Baden-Powell. He was born February 22, 1857 and died on January 8, 1941.

World Thinking Day

World Thinking Day is  celebrated annually on February 22 by all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.  It is also celebrated by Scout and Guide organizations. It was decided by the delegates that this day would be February 22, birthday of both Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout movement, and Lady Olave Baden-Powell, his wife and the First World Chief Guide.
