Auguste Antoine Piccard
Auguste Antoine Piccard was born on 28 January 1884. He was a Swiss physicist, inventor and explorer. He was the inspiration for Professor Cuthbert Calculus in The Adventures of Tintin by Belgian cartoonist Herge. He died on 24 March 1962.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed on 27 January, is an international memorial day for the victims of the Holocaust, the genocide that resulted in the annihilation of 6 million Jews, 2 million Gypsies, 15,000 homosexual people and millions of others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators.

Ratification Day (United States)
Ratification Day in the United States refers to the anniversary of the ratification of the Treaty of Paris on January 14, 1784 at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, Maryland by the Confederation Congress. This act officially ended the American Revolution and established the U.S. as a sovereign entity.

Sydney Brenner
Sydney Brenner was born on13 January 1927, he is a South African biologist and a 2002 Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine laureate, shared with H. Robert Horvitz and John Sulston. Brenner made significant contributions to work on the genetic code, and other areas of molecular biology while working in the Medical Research Council Unit in Cambridge, England.

National Youth Day (India)
National Youth Day is celebrated in India on 12 January on the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. In 1984 the Government of India declared the day as the National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.
