Johann Franz Encke

Johann Franz Encke was a German astronomer.  He was born on September 23, 1791, he worked on the calculation of the periods of comets and asteroids, measured the distance from the earth to the sun, and made observations of the planet Saturn. He died on August 26, 1865.

James Dewar

James Dewar was a Scottish chemist and physicist. He was born on September 20, 1842. He is probably best-known today for his invention of the Dewar flask, which he used in conjunction with extensive research into the liquefaction of gases. He died on March 27, 1923.

World Water Monitoring Day
